DAYTON — The Montgomery County Commission approved an amendment that will add more nurses to help with inmate intake at the county’s jail.
On Tuesday, commissioners approved an amendment to the county’s contract with NaphCare, Inc., the health services provider of the jail.
The contract change will require more registered nurses to be hired for the facility’s intake portion.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office already has nurses in the jail, but four more nurses will be hired to help with incoming inmates. EMTs currently work with incoming inmates.
The decision comes after a least six inmates died in the Montgomery County Jail this year.
The nurses will be able to help diagnose medical problems inmates may have when they first arrive.
