MONTGOMERY COUNTY — UPDATE @ 5:35 p.m.:
News Center 7 spoke with Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck who said, “We’ve been in the national news for the past couple years. We’re sick of being in those headlines, so there’s a lot of people working very hard in this county to help with all of this, and on law enforcement side, we're gonna do everything we can. I’m gonna throw every resource I have at them.”

Last week, the Montgomery County Drug-Free Coalition conducted a Law Enforcement Blitz to help combat the drug epidemic in the northern portion of Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Butler Township Police Department, DEA, RANGE Task Force, Miamisburg Police Department, Miami Township Police Department, Vandalia Police Department, Huber Heights Police Department, Riverside Police Department, and Moraine Police Department participated in the blitz. The jurisdictions that were targeted include Harrison Township, Vandalia, and Butler Township.
Marked patrol units surveyed known drug areas during the blitz. There were a variety of seized heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, needles/drug paraphernalia, cash, and guns during the blitz.
In total, 54 people were stopped. There was a total of 16 arrests made, 2 of those arrests were misdemeanor arrests while the remainder were either, felony, drug, or firearms related. Only a total of 5 traffic citations were issued since these operations are concentrated on targeting drugs and drug dealers.
This was the first blitz this year and the sheriff’s office reports they will conduct more in 2019.
