Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to start ‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign next week

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is planning to ramp up enforcement of Ohio’s seat belt law beginning Monday.

As part of the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign, the sheriff’s office says it will be keeping a close eye on safety violations from May 22 through June 4.

“The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies dedicated to seat belt enforcement on county roadways during this campaign,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputies will strictly enforce and issue citations for failure to wear seat belts and for failing to properly restrain children.”

Ohio law says motorists must wear a seat belt, including the front-seat passenger.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 50 percent of the 26,325 occupants killed in crashes in 2021 were not wearing seatbelts.
