The City of Fairborn voted to originally approve the freeze of any recreational marijuana sales back in July.
News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher said it was set to expire at the end of the year. It will now last until March.
A Fairborn leader reacted to the decision.
“My only comment is we are kicking the preverbal can just to make sure we do our due diligence. It’s nothing more than making sure we do the right thing for our community with a full understanding of the law and the expectations of the community,” said Mary Reaster, Fairborn City Council.
Fletcher said the Tipp City Council voted Monday night to unanimously extend the freeze through Dec. 2025.
“I’ll say I’m glad to see this being renewed. This is something we introduced last year, and this is something we are still addressing as a city to determine what is best for the city,” said Kathryn Huffman, Tipp City Council President.
The Troy City Council has looked at allowing a medical dispensary, a recreational dispensary, and a testing lab. Their vote was pushed to a second meeting at a later date.
Fairborn will host a citizen’s forum next month to hear from the community on this issue.
We will update this story.
