Mother charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in crash that killed her 7-year-old son

FLETCHER, Miami County — A mother is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after she was accused of crashing into a semi, killing her 7-year-old son, while she was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

Britaney Kirchgessner, 28, was arrested after charged were filed last week for the June 20 crash on U.S. 36 in Fletcher.

Kirchgessner’s son Daniel Voris, of Urbana, died after he was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment, deputies said.

Voris was the passenger in a pickup truck that crashed head-on into a semitrailer on U.S. 36 at South Walnut Street just before 7 a.m.

Kirchgessner was driving the pickup and was critically hurt in the crash.

Billy Shoffner, 49, of Carmel, Indiana, identified as the driver of the semitruck, was not injured in the crash, deputies said.

A preliminary investigation found Kirchgessner’s truck crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on into the semi, investigators said in the media release.
