Sgt. Steve Mills of the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor, but that a crash reconstruction team was investigating whether excessive speed was involved. The posted limit is 55 mph, he said.

It appeared the driver, identified as a man in his 20s, went off the right side of the road, over-corrected and went off the left side of the roadway into a steep ditch, the sergeant said.

“The vehicle rolled several times,” Mills said. “It appears all six occupants were ejected from the vehicle.”

None was believed to be wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation.

Although a deputy earlier said only four people were ejected, investigators later determined all six were thrown from the Suburban. Also, a deputy previously reported that none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

Several medical helicopters were requested but were unable to fly due to poor weather conditions.
