Multiple people displaced after 2 separate house fires in Troy; Lightning being investigated as cause of one fire

TROY — UPDATE @ 7:00 p.m.:

Lightning is being investigated as a potential cause of a residential fire in Troy.

Dale Thompson, firefighter with the Troy Fire Department, told News Center 7′s Ronnell Hunt that occupants and neighbors of the home on the 100 block of North Elm Street reported hearing a loud boom prior to the fire.

Thompson described the damaged as “very extensive.”

The occupants of the home were able to evacuate without injury. Thompson said they are getting assistance from the Red Cross tonight.

INITIAL REPORT:

Multiple people were displaced after two separate fires broke out in Troy on Sunday.

Firefighters were first called to respond to a house fire just before 9 a.m. in the 300 block of Troy Street near Virginia Avenue.

Initial reports indicate the fire originated in the basement of the home.

Dispatch says that the Red Cross was called to respond and one person was displaced.

The second fire occurred around two hours later in the 100 block of North Elm Street.

Troy Fire Department crew said the home suffered heavy damage, and the cause was possibly weather related.

Two people were displaced from the home.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
