DAYTON — The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels will be the headline act of the 2022 Vectren Dayton Air Show, returning to Dayton for the first time since 2018, event organizers announced Thursday.

Organizers also announced the Army’s Golden Knights, the official paratroop demonstration team has been added to the 2021 show, which was already set to be headlined by the Air Force’s Thunderbirds.

Both announcements for future shows comes after organizers were forced to cancel the 2020 event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Blue Angels will feature a first for the Navy’s demonstration team as they will be flying their new aircraft the Boeing F/A-18, dubbed the “Super Hornet.” The new aircraft is larger, heavier, and louder with two larger GE engines from the previous F-18 models the team has been flying since 1986.

The Golden Knights last appeared in Dayton for the 2019 show.

“We received fantastic news for both our 2021 and 2022 shows this week. The world-renowned Blue Angels and elite Golden Knights will be coming to Dayton, which is great news for our community,” Scott Buchanan, Chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show Board of Trustees, the governing organization of the show said in a media release.

“We are looking forward to seeing our fans in July,” he said.

The 2021 show is scheduled for July 10-11. The 2022 show is scheduled for July 30-31.
