Nearly $4 million in federal funds awarded to improve area airports

WASHINGTON D.C. — Nearly $4 million in federal funds have been awarded to improve local area airports.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown announced airports in Clark, Darke, Greene, and Butler Counties will each get funding to “enhance safety and operations,” according to his spokesperson.

  • Springfield/Beckley Municipal Airport will get at least $3 million to rehabilitate the structural integrity of runway pavement and a runway lighting system to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions. They will also install replacement runway identifier lights to make the airport accessible by improving approaches to the runway.
  • The Darke County Airport in Versailles will receive over $330,000 to reconstruct the terminal building to allow for the efficient movement of passengers and baggage.
  • Greene County/Lewis A Jackson Regional Airport will get at least $216,000 to seal existing taxiway surface, perform crack sealing to existing runway and rehabilitate the existing terminal building passenger waiting area to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
  • Butler County- Miami University Airport in Oxford will receive nearly $140,000 in funding to perform sealing and joint filling for the existing terminal tarmac surface and taxiway.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure, supporting travel and commerce in our state,” said Brown. “These investments will enhance safety and operations at Southwest Ohio airports and improve travel for area residents and businesses.”

Cincinnati West Airport in Harrison will also receive over $200,000 in funding to install a new taxiway lighting to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions.
