DAYTON — A suspect accused of hitting an unmarked police cruiser and causing an hours-long standoff on Friday has been arrested.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11:00, the incident started around 1:30 p.m. after a man allegedly hit an unmarked police cruiser near W. Siebenthaler and Salem Avenues.

The driver ran toward an apartment complex on Wentworth Avenue and an hours-long standoff began.
A SWAT team, bomb squad, and hostage negotiators responded to the complex.
Police sources told News Center 7 that the suspect involved was James Hancock.
“Had a warrant issued for his arrest for gross abuse of the corpse and tampering with evidence that he was also a person of interest in the same homicide,” Dayton Police Lieutenant Mark Ponichtera said.
According to a previous News Center 7 report, Hancock was indicted on Wednesday and an arrest warrant was filed.
Neighbors who saw the incident unfold said they were concerned.
Toby Ward has lived in the apartment complex for 10 years and said he’s never seen anything like this before.
“They said he was a dangerous man, they said he killed somebody,” Ward said.
Another neighbor told News Center 7 said someone must have let Hancock into the building.
“They should do a little more security, a little more background, but you never know what somebody do. Somebody can be fine one day and then snap the next day,” the neighbor said.
SWAT went into the complex and arrested Hancock without incident after 6:30 p.m.
Ponichtera said they found him alone, hiding in a fifth-floor apartment.
“He knows the resident there. The resident had left. We actually secured that resident. You know, once we figured out which apartment it was,” Ponichtera said.
People living in the apartment complex are glad they could get back inside with no problem.
“When things like this happen, it makes it hard to live here. Yeah, make it hard to live any d*** where,” Ward said.
It is unclear what news charges Hancock will face after the crash and standoff.
Montgomery County Jail records show he was booked just after 10 p.m. on tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse charges.
