WHIO-TV and the Dayton Daily News have uncovered new information about the Miami Twp. house where Jacob Caldwell was found after the teen was missing for more than a year after seeing his father shot to death.

The search warrant was filed Tuesday in Miamisburg Municipal Court and sealed by Judge Robert Rettich, according to Clerk of Courts Amanda Zennie.

Neighbors near the house told this news organization they observed police activity – including the use of bull horns – outside it Monday night.

Jacob Caldwell was found in the basement. Four other adults were in the house when police arrived.

Those people have not been charged in Jacob Caldwell’s disappearance, who went missing in 2017 days after he and his two brothers saw their father shot to death in a Riverside parking lot.

The investigation is an operation involving the FBI and Sugarcreek Twp. police, said Miami Twp. Acting Administrator Ron Hess, the police chief. Miami Twp. police have declined to comment further.

Jacob Caldwell’s mother and five other people face charges in connection with Robert Caldwell’s death.

The owners of the Spring Valley Pike house where Jacob Caldwell was found are a husband and wife who live in Washington Twp. When contacted by this news organization Thursday, the woman produced a lease agreement listing a man and a woman as the home’s occupants. The third person living there was the woman’s adult son, the homeowner said.

The homeowner said she was shocked when told the missing boy was discovered at the home. She said they never went in the home when they stopped by to collect rent check each month.
The homeowner said police have not contacted her or her husband about what happened Monday night.

Two law enforcement sources connected to the investigation have confirmed Jacob Caldwell was found in the basement there that night.

Two neighbors also confirmed seeing police and FBI at the house Monday.

One neighbor said they had noticed a white, teenage boy at the home recently – outside and coming and going from the house – with long blonde hair tied into a pony tail. That matched a description of what a family attorney said Jacob Caldwell looked like this week.

Police did not believe the teen was held against his will, but officers will pursue charges against any adults who helped keep him hidden.

The search warrant in Monday night’s raid is just the latest document to be sealed in the Caldwell case.

The federal criminal investigation and court case against six defendants alleged to be involved in Robert Caldwell’s death includes at least 40 sealed search warrant-related documents, according to records in Dayton’s U.S. District Court.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Rose issued an order in May to allow defense attorneys “limited dissemination” to 40 search warrant applications, affidavits, warrants and returns issued between Jan. 29, 2018 and March 14, 2018.
