XENIA TWP., Greene County — Troopers determined speed was a factor in the crash that killed two Xenia boys on Ohio 235 last week, according to a crash report.
Troy Haney, 16, was driving south on state Route 235 at approximately 82 mph when he lost control and struck another car.
Haney and his passenger, Jarred Hixson, 16, were both pronounced dead on the scene.
The car Haney crashed into was driven by Shelby Mills, 23, of Brookville, and her 4-year-old daughter also was inside, according to records. Both Mills and her daughter were taken to Greene Memorial Hospital for injuries suspected to be serious, the report shows.
Mark David, a Xenia Twp. resident, said he heard the sound of a crash, and that about a minute later heard voices. When he opened his door, there were five or six people who had stopped to help the victims, including a nurse.
David said the intersection of state Route 235 and Hilltop Road is dangerous, particularly at night because the area is pitch-black.

“I lived here 15 years and there’s been accidents, at least 10 accidents” in front of his home, he said. “Most of my accidents are caused by somebody just crossing through the stop sign and into my yard.”
“There’s people flying down the hill,” David said.
State Route 235 was shut down in both directions for troopers to investigate the crash.
