NEW INFO: Children taken to hospital following overdose expected to survive

Aarianna Melvin

DAYTON — The two children, 2 years old and less than a year, who were taken to the hospital after suspected overdoses at a home on Midway Avenue are expected to survive, police said.

The children’s mother, Aarianna Melvin, took the children around 9:30 a.m. Thursday to Dayton Fire Station 17 on West Third Street after she suspected the overdose, according to investigators.

Police determined the suspected overdose likely occurred at Melvin’s residence in the 4600 block of Midway.

Investigators told News Center 7’s Mike Campbell they found suspected fentanyl in the kitchen area and the substance was on the feet and legs of the children.

Housing inspectors declared the apartment uninhabitable and a hazardous materials team will have to respond to clean up the residence, police said.

Melvin remained in the Montgomery County Jail Friday. Police are pursuing charges of child endangering and drug possession.
