NEW INFO: Man charged after nearly hitting officers, pedestrians near fireworks display

WEST CARROLLTON — A 29-year-old Dayton man is facing felonious assault and failure to comply charges after running over traffic barriers and nearly hitting a woman watching fireworks from her driveway in West Carrollton.

Brian L. Wilson Jr. was arrested after he fled from multiple officers and eventually was captured in the area of Terrence Court.

Wilson had his bond set Monday at $65,000 and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf in court, records show.

An officer working a traffic post in the area of Burns Avenue and William Street spotted Wilson driving at a high rate of speed for the area, which also was blocked as part of fireworks patrols along North Alex Road, according to court records.

Multiple officers tried to pull over Wilson, however, he apparently refused to stop.

“I approached the truck telling Wilson to stop the truck. Wilson did not comply ... and then looked at me and then the other way, accelerating his truck running over the traffic barrier, metal road closed sign with cones, continuing onto the closed North Alex Road,” an officer write in a statement of facts filed in municipal court.

According to court records, Wilson was accused of fleeing from police down Alex Road, where both sides of the road were lined with people watching fireworks.

Police estimated there were several hundred people in the area.

Wilson eventually stopped the truck on Terrence Court, where he came to a sliding stop in front of a woman sitting at the end of her driveway watching fireworks.

“Afterwards she told me she thought her life was over as she saw the truck coming toward her,” the officer wrote in court records.

Wilson ran into a yard and into a house without permission, then ran out the front door, where he was taken into custody by police.
