RIVERSIDE — Kroger has begun construction at the former Kmart location on Woodman Drive.
The City of Riverside said in a social media post that Kroger has invited the Riverside City Council for a groundbreaking ceremony on March 4.
“This new Kroger store is a game-changer for our community. The City thanks Kroger and their entire team for their commitment to reinvest in Riverside,” said Riverside community development director Gary Burkholder told News Center 7 when the project was first announced in April 2021.

The store will be located at 601 Woodman Drive.
“Kroger is proud to bring a fresh and friendly customer experience to the Riverside community,” Erin Rolfes, corporate affairs manager, said back in April. “We believe Fresh for Everyone means having the right products our customers need when they need them. This new store is a great step toward that goal.”
A grand opening date has not been announced.
