This has been a request from the community for years.

“I think community members have told me for 20 years that ‘if we only had an Olive Garden.’ So it’s exciting that we’re going to have some amenities that the community is excited about,” Chris Schmiesing, economic development director for Piqua said.

Before breaking ground on the site, city officials had to remove a condemned building and level the ground.

“The city tapped in the resources available through the state of Ohio to be able to demolish the blighting influence and ready the site for redevelopment,” Schmiesing said.

The developer for this $22 million project is no stranger to Piqua.

“BASIS company was the same one to develop Starbucks in front of the Home Depot,” Schmiesing said.

Olive Garden and Chipotle are expected to be done in early 2025.

The Hampton Inn construction is expected to take more time.
