As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, Dayton officers responded to reports of a large fight near Ned Peppers Bar, in the 400 block of East 5th Street around 2:15 a.m.

As crews were working to break up the crowd, additional fights broke out.

Dayton Police Department Major Jason Hall said officers called out a Signal 99, or a county-wide call for backup, because the crowd became “increasingly agitated” as they were arresting “violent individuals.”

This is the fourth time police called Signal 99 in the Oregon District in the last six months.

Body camera footage shows officers moving from one fight to the next.

One officer deploys their taser “to assist in arresting” a 27-year-old man, Hall said. Crews also arrested a 28-year-old man who was not cooperating.

According to Hall, the men are expected to face disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges.

As a standard procedure, the use of force with taser deployment will be subject to internal review.

Neighbors tell News Center 7 that they believe officers are working to stop the continued violent incidents.

“Everywhere you go, no matter what, they patrol this area more than anything,” Thomas Martin said.

Martin said he loves to come to the Oregon District.

“This is a nice place for everyone to come, you know, everybody to hang out, get to know each other and everything in the community,” Martin said.

Last month, Police told News Center 7 that they know the community cares about what happens in the Oregon District.

The department opens overtime slots for officers to patrol and use extra technology in the area.

“We tend to have a higher-than-normal presence in the Oregon District,” Hall said.
