WAYNE COUNTY — A woman who was nine months pregnant with twins was involved in a crash Saturday afternoon, where one of the twins was unable to survive after being delivered by emergency C-section, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 17000 block of Lamar Road.
Deputies said a car driven by Shibu Thannikkunnath, 44, of Indianapolis, was going east on Lamar, when he crossed the center line to move over for a person mowing their grass along the road.
Cheyanne Garringer, 24, of Hagerstown, was driving west and crested the hill right before the crash.
“The two vehicles collided in a head on collision causing serious injuries to Garringer who was nine months pregnant with twins,” the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department said. “Garringer was transported by Reid Health EMS to Reid Health where she was taken for an emergency caesarian section surgery to deliver the infants, as well as treatment for other injuries. Tragically, one of the newborns did not survive.”
Thannikkunnath was taken to Reid Health for treatment of his injuries.
Updates on the conditions of Garringer, her newborn and Thannikkunnath were not immediately available.
