It was a busy year in the Miami Valley. News Center 7 reporters covered homicide arrests, severe weather, fought access to public meetings and so much more. Our reporters recounted their top five stories they covered this year. Here are Kate Bartley’s top 5 stories from 2018:
1- Dayton region sees significant increase in organ donors - The Miami Valley has seen a significant increase in overdose organ donors since 2016.
2- Maternal mortality- Women having babies are dying at a higher rate than in any other developed country.
3- Demand for donor milk increases- The OhioHealth Mothers Milk Bank ships out about 24,000 ounces of milk a month to NICUs in 14 states and Canada.
4- Highlights from the Ohio governor's debate in Dayton- The first debate for Ohio governor candidates Democrat Richard Cordray and Republican Mike DeWine was held at the Univeristy of Dayton. DeWine would go on to win the election.
5- Wright-Patterson shooter determined to be false alarm- Reports of an active shooter at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base's Medical Center was determined to be a false alarm.
