As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, Rumpke Waste and Recycling is looking to put a trash transfer station on a lot on S Dayton-Lakeview Avenue in Bethel Township.

The project site is less than a mile north of the Huber Heights Buc-ee’s, which is under construction.

The lot is already home to a soccer field that holds generational memories for the community.

“It’s going to affect my family, income, a lot,” James High said.

The transfer station is designed to hold trash until it’s moved to a larger landfill.

Hign owns Moden Day Flooring, which is located on the lot.

He said Rumpke’s plans could take everything he built.

“Don’t know what our future is here now. Very scary, we have been here for 14 years. We do a lot of work in the community and we sponsor ball teams around the area. Lots going to be missed around here,” High said.

High said Rumpke has not said anything to him about their proposed plans and his business’s future.

“No one likes the idea of a landfill being here. (It’s) just something we don’t want here,” High said.

The closest Rumpke transfer station is 40 miles west in Greenville.

News Center 7 reached out to Rumpke to learn how they picked this location.

“This facility will create an accessible waste disposal location and help expand recycling opportunities for businesses and residents throughout the region. The development of this project will have a positive economic and environmental impact for many years to come,” a Rumpke spokesperson said.

Bethel Township community members are gathering for a public discussion about the proposed trash facility on Tuesday evening.

News Center 7 will continue to follow this story.
