Around 12:15 p.m., fire crews responded to reports of a fire at Brant Performance Horses in the 8000 block of State Route 638, Logan County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Joe Kopus confirmed with News Center 7.

Upon arrival, fire crews saw that the 60,000-square-foot facility was fully involved. Crews called several mutual aid partners to battle the fire.

“(The) whole building was not safe to go into. There are living quarters inside. They had a horse arena inside, and it was all fully, fully involved...We could not make entry,” Richland Township Assistant Fire Chief Jason Johns said.

Johns said he doesn’t have an official count yet, but at least 60 horses were trapped inside.

“I have heard anywhere from 60 to 90 horses were still inside. I don’t have an official count yet, and none of them got out,” Johns said.

Kelsey Snipes said she used to keep horses at the facility and is familiar with Brant Performance Horses.

“I used to do training as well as barrel racing, but I have some friends that work over there,” Snipes said.

Snipes said she feels for everyone who had to be notified about what happened.

“Getting that phone call or seeing that on the news or the pictures on Facebook and realizing that’s the place,” Snipes said.

She said she is confident the owners will pick up all the pieces and rebuild the facility.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
