OAKWOOD — An Oakwood baker is celebrating sweet success every time the Cincinnati Bengals bring home a win.

Ashley’s Pastries in Oakwood has been in business for 40 years. However, owner Theresa Hammons and her husband are from Cincinnati and their love of the Bengals is boosting business.

“With each win, the Bengals have had our sales increased tremendously,” Hammons said.

From cookies to cupcakes and breads baked in the shape of footballs, their pastry shop has become a hot spot for those holding playoff celebrations.

“Probably overall when we started with the Raiders to the Titans, we were at a 30 percent increase with the Titans. Now to the Chiefs, we’re hoping for a 50 percent increase,” Hammons said.

Sharon Reger said she first saw the cookies on Facebook. “I saw Theresa’s post and I saw those wonderful looking Bengals cookies. My son-in-law went to the game, and he was thrilled. My whole family loves the Bengals, so I had to get them those cookies and now I see cupcakes, so I have to get them too,” she said.

Hammons said cashing in while supporting her hometown team is nice especially since the business in January is usually slow. However, Hammons isn’t slowing down at all.

She said the shop will continue to keep baking Bengals goodies as long as the team keeps winning.
