The mix of snow, ice and dropping temperatures prompted the ODOT crews to revamp their salt solution.
“When we have temperatures like these, where there’s an extra chill in the air, we get that wind chill. We go ahead and change that solution and we add an algaculture deicer to that mixture that even lowers the freezing temperature more, helping us keep those roads passable,” Loryn Bryson with ODOT said.
ODOT crews shared the road with other drivers, including a delivery driver out working in the cold, Rob Davis.
“Just trying to make it through these roads,” Davis said. “I just do this on the side for fun. Just doing it tonight while the family is gone.”
Davis was an hour into his shift when he saw some other drivers lose control and slide.
“Make sure you give plenty of distance and stop for stop signs way before. I’ve already seen a lot of people sliding out there,” Davis said.
Some of the roads in the Miami Valley are clear, due to deicer and plowing from ODOT, but it is important to remain cautious especially on bridges and overpasses.
