Off-duty Ohio deputy shoots burglar who broke into his home, sheriff’s office says

READING — UPDATE @ 3:18 p.m.:

A Hamilton County deputy returning home from work shot an alleged burglar in his home Sunday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputies and Reading police were called to Keith Road in Reading on reports of shots fired, according to our news partners at WCPO.

Investigators told WCPO that there was a confrontation and the deputy fired his personally-owned weapon.

The suspect ran from the scene but was later taken into custody by Cincinnati police.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Darrell Williams Jr. The sheriff’s office confirmed he was shot in the leg and stated his injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

Williams has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
