Butler County sheriff says man pointed gun toward deputy being being shot

Butler County deputies say Jacob Faulkner, the man shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening, was taking shots at a moving train, according to a release.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones said in a press conference, the deputy involved in this shooting has been named as Taylor Henson, a six-year veteran of the force.

After deputies responded to the home, the subject came out of the home and onto his porch with a shotgun.

Cause of death for Jacob Faulkner will be determined by the Butler County Coroner's Office.

“We believe this was a justifiable shooting,” Jones said.

Deputies said they were dispatched on a report of an active shooter on Jackson Road around 5:23 p.m. Tuesday night.

"It is a tragic situation when life is lost, the preliminary investigation indicates that is was a justified shooting," Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said.

According to the release, the man fled the area before deputies encountered him on Hamilton Trenton Road.

The release did not clarify the moments of the shooting, saying only that “deputies engaged with the armed suspect and shots were fired.”

The man’s name will be released pending notification tomorrow.

UPDATE @ 8:51 p.m.

A man shot and killed during an officer-involved shooting in Butler County was shooting at a stopped train prior to being shot, according to Butler County deputies.

The man then ran into a house on Hamilton Trenton Road, according to our crew at the scene, and exited through the back of the home.

Our crew is told the man was shot by an officer from an unknown jurisdiction after exiting the house.

No officers were injured in the call, according to deputies.

UPDATE @ 8:15 p.m.:  A male, who was the focus of the active shooter incident in St. Clair Twp., has been killed by a Butler County sheriff's deputy.

There has been an officer-involved shooting in the 4100 block of Hamilton Trenton Road in St. Clair Twp. that involves the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff's dispatcher tells us the incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. There has been no word on whether the incident involves shots fired or whether someone has been wounded or killed.

Staff Writer Lauren Pack is reporting that she has learned the incident involves an active shooter.

No further details have been released.
