Man in custody after SWAT standoff in Piqua

PIQUA — UPDATE @ 5:08 a.m.

A 20-year-old man is in custody after a SWAT standoff in Piqua early Tuesday morning.

The man is suspected to be connected to a fire at Piqua High School Monday night around 7:30 p.m., according to Lieutenant Rodriguez, of the Piqua Police Department.

Officers obtained a search warrant and arrived at his residence on Jill Court after 11:15 p.m. and believed he was armed with a handgun.

Piqua SWAT was called to the scene. Pictures from an iWitness 7 reporter showed officers, SWAT, and medics on the scene.

The suspect gave up and was taken into custody at 4 a.m., Lieutenant Rodriguez told News Center 7.

Several police officers are investigating early Tuesday morning in Piqua.

Piqua police officers and medics are on Jill Court and Seidel Parkway near the Valley Church.

An iWitness 7 viewer sent photos showing officers have blocked Jill Court.

Dispatchers told News Center 7 that officers were on the scene but provided no other information.
