HUBER HEIGHTS — A driver is hospitalized after crashing his pick-up truck into a business early Friday morning.
Huber Heights Police officers and medics were dispatched around 12:15 a.m. to the area of Brandt Pike and Taylorsville Road on initial reports that a car crashed into a building, dispatcher told News Center 7.
New video first shown Friday on News Center 7 at 6 p.m. showed a wide shot of the shopping center’s parking lot shortly before the crash. The camera caught a man staggering a bit before leaning against the passenger side of a pickup truck in the parking lot. He then pushes back off, walks around the truck, and gets into the driver’s seat.
That pickup truck can be seen pulling out before doing a 180-degree loop and, without slowing down, crashing into Wayne Sporting Goods.
Medics transported the victim to the hospital with minor injuries.
The store’s owner Brad Lewis walked into a mess with wood, blocks, and bricks everywhere. Thinking that a driver under the influence might have done all of that is tough for him to take.
“We have a local bar here in our parking lot. The person was trying to get past our building, cutting through our parking lot to get out onto Taylorsville Road,” Lewis said, noting he has his suspicion but is not accusing anyone.
Now, Lewis is trying to be positive and move forward. He hopes to have his business fully open again by Monday.
