More than 100 people attended the funeral for the newborn baby. The funeral was held at Ferguson Funeral Home, WBNS reported.
The number of guests who attended the funeral for a baby that did not even have a name did not surprise some. From officials to community members, they resonated the same understanding of community support and needs during unfortunate times.
“It wasn’t a shock to me that so many people showed up today, because in times of need, Plain City has always been that way,” Plain City Police Chief Dale McKee said.
“It’s such a shame that things like this have to happen, but it’s encouraging and inspiring to see all of the support coming from the community,” Ray Stutzman, a Plain City resident, said.
Although the newborn baby did not have an official name, the community bestowed a name upon her. Since the infant was discovered in Madison County, community leaders named the baby “Madison Baby Doe.”
Community members also donated funds to pay for the funeral. Ferguson Funeral Home and Forest Grove Cemetery provided some of the services at no charge.
The baby’s cause of death remained unknown at this time. Investigators waited for the final autopsy report from the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Anyone with information related to the investigation was asked to contact police at 614-873-2921.
