The Summit County Sheriff’s Office told WEWS and WOIO that a 35-year-old man entered a railroad tanker car to conduct an air quality test as two other people waited outside.
The two people outside tried to help the victim when they noticed he’d become unresponsive.
The man, identified by WOIO as Dalion Ambler, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire department determined that Ambler died due to the oxygen-deficient atmosphere of the tank, WOIO reported.
No other workers or firefighters were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.
