DAYTON — The Ohio Narcotics Association Regional Coordinating Officers is naming its Valor Award after fallen Dayton Detective and Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force Officer Jorge Del Rio.
According to a social media post from Dayton Police & Fire, the award goes to a law enforcement officer who “was injured or prevented the loss of life through their actions while conducting a narcotics investigation.”

Del Rio, 55, was posthumously honored with the award this year at NARCO’s conference.
Del Rio died in Nov. 2019 from critical injuries sustained after being shot twice while serving a drug-related warrant as part of a DEA task force.
While announcing that the award would be named after Del Rio, Ohio NARCO President Richard Meadows said it was “overwhelming to see just how many investigators Jorge has helped over the course of his career.”
