Ohio Primary: Voter turnout surpasses 2018 primary, lags behind last Presidential primary

As election day has come and passed, the voter turnout in Ohio has already exceeded the 2018 primary as thousands of absentee ballots could still be counted by May 8.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is reporting 22.66 percent of registered voters in the state cast ballots in this year’s primary election, according to preliminary data. Compare that to 21 percent in 2018 and 43.66 percent in the last Presidential primary in 2016.

However, the oddity of this year’s election has left thousands of absentee ballots that still may be added to the final tally of votes before the official numbers are certified later this month.
