The bill will let Ohio residents buy a special license plate with Dolly Parton and an Imagination Library logo for $25, according to a release from Antonio’s office.
Proceeds from the license plates will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Some of the funds will cover operational expenses like book distribution.
The Imagination Library has been providing Ohio children ages zero to five one free book a month since 2019.
Ohio families can enroll in the program for free.
The Ohio Imagination Library has mailed 19.4 million books in the past five years.
410,000 books were mailed to children ages zero to five this month alone, according to the Ohio Imagination Library’s website.
Senate Bill 290 is now heading to the Ohio House of Representatives.
“I am proud to have the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library license plate pass unanimously out of the Senate,” Antonio said. “As a parent and former educator, I have been pleased to work with the governor on this important piece of legislation that will benefit children across the state. I also want to thank Ohio’s First Lady Fran DeWine for championing this program.”
