COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol graduated 29 new troopers from the OSHP’s 171st Academy Friday.

The new graduates’ first day on the job is today.
They will spend their first 70 days in a field-training period under the guidance of a veteran officer, OSHP said.
Among the courses completed include crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, detection of impaired drivers, firearms, physical fitness, self-defense, and emergency vehicle operations.
The new graduates are assigned to 20 of the OSHP’s 59 posts.
