Ohio Supreme Court rejects commission’s third set of redistricting maps, ruled unconstitutional

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled the proposed House and Senate districts maps as unconstitutional and for a third time they must be redrawn.

In a 4-3 decision Wednesday night, the court majority ruled the drawings of the maps were of partisan intent to favor Republicans and disfavor Democrats, our news partners at WBNS report.

The court asked the Ohio Redistricting Commission to create a new plan and file it with the Ohio Secretary of State’s office by March 28.

The plan must also be filed with the court by 9 a.m. March 29, according to WBNS.

This is the third time the court has rejected maps created by the commission, as they do not meet voter-approved provisions of the state constitution to reduce the favoring of one party.

The first drawing of the maps from the commission was presented to the court in January and the second in February.

Wednesday’s decision could delay Ohio’s May 3 primary, according to WBNS.
