Ohio unemployment continued claims drop for 8th straight week

OHIO — As Ohioans continue to return to work, state officials reported that continued unemployment benefits have dropped again this week.

According to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, those who are still jobless filed 314,744 fewer continued claims last week compared to the peak in April.

Last week, Ohio reported 34,553 initial jobless claims, bringing the total amount of initial claims filed during the pandemic to 1,395,184.

Ohio has paid out $4.4 billion in unemployment payments to more than 716,000 people during the pandemic.

The state said 94 percent of the applications received for unemployment benefits have been processed.
