DAYTON — Second graders at Kemp Elementary got a surprise message from Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles.
According to Dayton Public Schools on Facebook, the students researched Biles and decorated their classroom door in honor of her for black history month.
The school was having a Black History Month door decorating contest.
“I wanted to let you all know that I’m so honored that you chose me and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much and I’ll be rooting for you” Biles said in the video.
Biles said the classroom’s teacher sent a photo of their decorated room to her.
Photos on DPS’ social media shows other doors decorated to celebrate cultural figures like Ann Lowe, Alice Walker and Ruby Bridges.
