‘Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior;’ Wayne grads help Notre Dame to CFP final

HUBER HEIGHTS — Several former Wayne High School football players are on the biggest college football stage.

Three Warrior alums are on this year’s Notre Dame team, two coaches and one player, according to a social media post.

Notre Dame Head Coach Marcus Freeman graduated from Wayne High School in 2004 and Defensive Backs Coach Mike Mickens graduated in 2005 from Wayne.

Aamil Wagner is an offensive lineman for the Fighting Irish and graduated from Wayne in 2022.

“We honor their outstanding accomplishments and wish them the best of luck as their teams prepare for their semifinal games this week. Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior!” the school district said on its Facebook page.

Notre Dame beat Penn State on Thursday, 27-24, in the Orange Bowl. They advance to the College Football Playoff Championship game and will play Ohio State or Texas on Jan. 20.

The Buckeyes and Longhorns battle each other tonight in the Cotton Bowl Classic at 7:30 p.m.

Josh Padilla plays for Ohio State. He graduated from Wayne in 2023.
