18-year-old killed in Dayton shooting, police arrest person of interest

DAYTON — An 18-year-old Dayton woman has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting early Wednesday morning on Gard Avenue.

Nascia Goodwin was killed in the shooting reported around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said.

Riverside police said early Wednesday that they were working with Dayton police to determine if this shooting, and two others that have left three people dead and at least one other injured since Saturday were connected, however Dayton police have since said they don’t believe any of the shootings are connected, according to Dayton Police Lt. Jason Hall.

A person of interest has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder, however that person’s name has not been released.

Investigators had been looking for potential connections between the deadly shooting of two women in Riverside Saturday morning, a shooting Monday on West Hillcrest Avenue in Dayton that left a man in serious condition, and Wednesday morning’s fatal shooting of Nascia Goodwin in Dayton on Gard Avenue.

In Riverside, Taprice Goodwin, 27, and Aria Middlebrook, 27, both of Dayton, were found dead near the area of Harshman Road and Tidewater Drive.

Hall said despite two of the shooting victims having the same last name, there is no indication the women were related to each other.

Monday afternoon, a 25-year-old man was shot on West Hillcrest Avenue in Dayton. That victim remains hospitalized and is in fair condition, hospital officials said.
