Minster man, 48, killed in three-vehicle crash in northern Shelby County, deputies say

SHELBY COUNTY — A Minster man died from his injuries after a three-vehicle crash in northern Shelby County Wednesday evening, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Terry Heitkamp, 48, was identified as the man killed in the crash, reported on state Route 29 at Bornhorst Road in McCartyville around 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, according to investigators.

A preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office found a Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Heitkamp, was stopped on state Route 29, attempting to make a left-hand turn into a carry-out business. A Pontiac G6, failed to stop for the stopped vehicle and crashed into the back of the Cavalier, sending it into the other lane where it was hit by a Jeep Wrangler, deputies said.

Heitkamp was treated on the scene by a doctor and two nurses who witnessed the crash before he was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, according to investigators. He later died at the hospital from his injuries, deputies said.

The driver of the Pontiac, idendified as Jonathon Craig, 48, of St. Marys, was not injured and refused treatment. The driver of the Jeep, identified as Jaymee Donovan, 42, of Botkins, refused treatment at the scene but was transported by a private vehicle to Joint Township Hospital in St. Marys.
