The woman, who asked to stay anonymous, told News Center 7′s Malik Patterson that people who live in the neighborhood look out for each other.

Five houses are occupied on this street which helps them keep up with each other.

The woman said vacant homes bring unwanted attention from people trying to break into them or other homes.

She described how scared she was when the shooting happened.

“That’s too close. That’s right by my bedroom window,” the woman told Patterson.

She described hearing something around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

“I started hearing a little bit of commotion going on,” she said.

She said her neighbor was out of town and checked to see what was happening.

“Then I peeped again, and then I (saw) one teenager. I think it was like three of them, but I (saw) the one teenager had a gun in his hand and pointed at her back door,” the woman said.

Being the only neighbor on the block at home at the time, she acted.

“(I got) my grandkids in the basement, I told my daughter,” said the woman.

As soon as the family got to the basement, that’s when they heard something.

“About four or five shots. Now, ‘That’s it.’ (I) told my daughter. I said, yeah. About to call 911, see what’s going on over here,”

The woman called the police and officers showed up quickly. They told her they also heard more shots.

She then described to Patterson what she saw next.

“They found three, I believe, back here in the alley,” said the woman.

She said when her neighbor came home, she checked on her.

“I said, ‘Is everything’s okay?’ And she said, ‘Yeah.’ So, she just trying to wait and see somebody can come over and put her cameras back.”

News Center 7 has contacted Dayton Police for more information about the motive of this shooting and to learn the condition of the person at the hospital.
