Oregon District expansion planned; parking garage, hotel among plans

DAYTON — The Dayton Montgomery County Port Authority is seeking $500,000 to help fund a more than $12.8 million parking garage that would anchor an eastern expansion of the existing Oregon District.

The project was named as a regional priority for economic development by a Dayton Development Coalition committee this week.

The garage would be located along Walnut Street near the intersection of Wayne Avenue and East Fifth Street in Dayton.

“The parking garage is a critical component of the $120 million Oregon East mixed-use development,” said Shelley Dickstein, Dayton’s City Manager. “The parking garage anchors current and future employers in the development.”

Other building planned in the future development include a hotel poised to sit at the corner of Fifth and Wayne and several mixed-use buildings. There also are plans for additional apartments in the area.

Developers project between 100-250 new jobs would be created with the expansion.

Additional funding for the parking garage project would come from ED/GE grant money, a tax increment financing district and money from the developer.
