OSHA investigation into construction fall at Springfield Wendy’s could take months

Construction worker falls through roof of Springfield Wendy's

SPRINGFIELD — The investigation into how a construction worker fell through the ceiling at a Wendy’s under renovation on East Main Street could take up to six months, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

“OSHA has opened an investigation into the incident. No further information on the case will be available until OSHA has completed their investigation, which by law, they have 6 months to complete,” said Scott Allen, spokesman for the U.S. Department of Labor.

Emergency crews responded to the restaurant in the 2400 block of East Main on Mar. 9 around 3:30 p.m.

A 911 caller told dispatchers that a 19-year-old man was working on the roof of the Wendy’s when he fell through an access on the roof.

“There was an open walk way and he fell through the roof,” the 911 caller said.

Springfield Fire Chief Brian Miller told News Center 7 that the worker fell about 12 feet and suffered a head injury.

Miller said the man was flown to an area hospital.

The construction company told OSHA the worker has survived his injuries.
