VANDALIA — A child was taken from a hotel near the city of Springdale in Hamilton County Wednesday afternoon and the alleged kidnapper led police on a chase that ended in Vandalia, according to the Springdale Police Department.

Springdale police were notified of a possible abduction in their area around 10:30 a.m. By noon the police department learned the child was dropped off at a relative’s house in Dayton and was safe.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver. When the driver refused, a pursuit began and eventually ended on National Road near Interstate 75.

Glen D. Armstead Jr., 47, was taken into custody and is facing a preliminary charge of kidnapping from the Springdale police as well as charges in Montgomery County.

Armstead and the child are known to each other and Armstead has reportedly been the child’s babysitter in the past, police said. However, the details involving the nature of their relationship is still unknown.

The child had already been taken to the relative’s house and was not in the vehicle during the pursuit.

Two people were taken into custody after the pursuit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

However, the Springdale Police Department said they only were aware of Armstead being taken into custody.
