OSP investigating deadly multi-vehicle crash in Highland County

WASHINGTON TWP., Highland County — A Cincinnati man was killed Friday night in a three-vehicle crash in Highland County.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Ohio 73 near milepost 15, according to a news release from the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Dodge 3500 pickup driven by Chase S. Williamson, 22, of Hillsboro, was traveling north on Ohio 73 when the truck went left of center and struck a Chevrolet Impala driven by Debra L. Peyton of Peebles, who was traveling south.

A BMW X5, driven by Cody A. Chapman, 27, of Cincinnati also was traveling north on Ohio 73, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and went airborne into a tree line.

Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Highland County Coroner’s Office, the release stated. One occupant in the BMW was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

No other injuries were reported.

Alcohol or drug use are unknown at this time.

Ohio 73 was closed for the crash investigation, but has since reopened.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Paint Creek Fire/EMS and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
