The Miami County Village of Pleasant Hill had extra firefighters and fire trucks in town this weekend as they hosted the 89th Annual Convention of the Central Western Firemen’s Association.
More than 100 firefighters and families from numerous counties attended the convention that included friendly competitions such as the water brigade evolution.
Bradford Fire Chief Jan Mottinger was honored, at age 81, as the oldest still active firefighter in the region.

Jayla Hill, representing the Vandalia-Butler Twp. Fire Department was crowned the 2019 Queen of the Association.
Pleasant Hill Newton Township Fire Dept. hosting the 89th Annual meeting of the Central Western Firemen’s Association Convention this weekend. Once again, and for many past years, I served as judge for the Friday evening Queen’s Contest. Other judges this year included Retired Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison and Laura Firefighter Ken Saunders. Selected 2019 CWFA Queen was Jayla Hill, 17, sponsored by the Vandalia-Butler Twp. Fire and Rescue. Runner-up was Morgan Robbins representing the Pleasant Hill-Newton Twp.
