Multiple counties are reporting down power lines and “glowing” transformers, dispatch from Montgomery County and Clark County confirmed.

Authorities have responded to these sites and contacted AES for electrical repairs along with Ohio Department of Transportation to clear debris from the streets.

AES crews are responding and working to restore power back to the Miami Valley, a spokesperson for the company told News Center 7. However, the estimated restoration times will differ for each area as crews investigate and repair each site as a case-by-case basis.

The projected restoration times are nearing a few hours with power being restored from 9 a.m., at the earliest, to approximately 3 p.m., according to AES’s Outage Map.

Strong winds in the early morning and into the afternoon are expected to be the cause of the outages, the spokesperson said. Winds can cause power lines to break or experience a disruption that can lead to a lack of electrical transfer or a “lock out.” The “lock out” halts the flow of power as a safety precaution.

There is a notable power outage in Miamisburg that is affecting about 2,000 AES customers.

Authorities state that a major power line servicing many customers went down, causing the large outage. AES is currently attempting to reroute power to these customers, the spokesperson said.

There have been no reports of property damage from these fallen or damaged power lines or transformers, the spokesperson said.

Officials always advise people to stay away from down power lines and to contact local authorities to report the damage.
