UPDATE Power restored to most customers in Springboro

SPRINGBORO — UPDATE @ 10:30 a.m.:

Power has been restored to over 7,000 Duke Energy customers after an outage Monday morning.

The outage was first reported at 8:45 a.m. and was caused by a lockout on the transmission side of their grid due to wildlife, according to a Duke Energy spokesperson.

News Center 7 check around 10:30 a.m. and there were less than five outages reported in the area.

Springboro Schools said the outage impacted five of the district’s six schools, but students and staffed carried on with the school day.

After power was restored, school officials said dismissal would take place at normal times. The outage did have an impact on the preparation for school lunches.

“While preparation for lunch service may have been slightly impacted at some of our buildings due to the power outage this morning, all students will have the opportunity for a school lunch, if desired,” school officials said in an updated statement posted to social media.
