SPRINGFIELD — An OVI checkpoint was held in Springfield Friday night, according to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The checkpoint was on West National Road east of US 68 in Springfield. It ran from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

449 vehicles passed through the checkpoints and no arrests were made, according to the press release.
Two vehicles were diverted to a secondary location and one traffic citation was issued during the checkpoint.
OSHP reports that 652 OVI-related crashes resulted in 720 deaths last year.
Troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests each year, according to the release.
The checkpoint is funded by federal grants to deter and intercept impaired drivers, the release said.
