The Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County planned to operate four sobriety checkpoints during the holiday weekend.
Two of the checkpoints were to be located in the city of Dayton.
Dayton Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and other personnel from the Montgomery County task force were to conduct roadside checks of drivers for alcohol and drug impairments.
The OVI checkpoints and enhanced patrols during the Fourth of July weekend was an “effort by law enforcement agencies to deter and apprehend impaired drivers,” a spokesperson for the Montgomery County OVI Task Force said.
Officials were expected to reveal the date of upcoming checkpoints later today, on Friday.
“The majority of the deadliest crashes occur at the start and throughout the holiday weekends,” the spokesperson said.
Everyone was encouraged to drive sober or designate a driver, and buckle up.
