News Center 7′s Amber Jenkins said a piece of paper now hangs on the restaurant’s door.
It said when the final day would be for Taste of Belgium at Austin Landing. They also thanked the community but said there is insufficient business to stay open.
People can visit the Taste of Belgium Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. before it closes permanently.
Jenkins emailed and left voices for the restaurant’s media contacts to get more information about the closing but did not hear back.
This restaurant is one of a handful of businesses to close in the Miami Valley.
News Center 7 has previously reported about Frisch’s, TGI Fridays, and Big Lots closing area locations.
Jenkins spoke with people at Austin Landing about the closure and other businesses in our area shutting down.
No one wanted to talk on camera. Two people told Amber that the drinks at Taste of Belgium seemed pricey.
They said the other restaurants were better.
When the Austin Landing location closes on Sunday, the nearest Taste of Belgium will be at the Greene in Beavercreek.
As previously reported by News Center 7, the restaurant said all workers unable to move to their Beavercreek location will receive Visa gift cards commensurate with their average weekly hours worked.
The Taste of Belgium also posted a statement about the closure on social media late Thursday afternoon.
“When we opened at Austin Landing, we were filled with hope and excitement to be part of what we believed was a thriving commercial and lifestyle center.
Over time, it became clear that the area had changed, and the environment no longer provided the foot traffic or community engagement necessary to help us simply break even. Despite our best efforts and the unwavering dedication of our incredible team, the challenges proved insurmountable.
We held on as long as we could, always hoping that the next event or holiday would bring the momentum we needed. Unfortunately, that momentum never came. We’ve come to the difficult realization that this location can no longer thrive under the current conditions, and we lack the resources and time needed to turn it into a destination spot.
I want to thank our amazing Austin Landing team for their resilience, positivity, and hospitality throughout this journey. Running a slow restaurant is never easy, yet they did it with heart and grace every single day.”
